Vita Leigh Hamilton, Soprano

Dramatic Soprano Leigh Hamilton was born in New York and now lives in Berlin Germany. After completing a very successful Fach change from dramatic coloratura to dramatic soprano, her most recent roles to date include Salome, Tosca, Senta, Abigaille and Leonora from Fidelio.

In 2013 Leigh will sing Abigaille in Verdis Nabucco für Opera Classica. In 2013/14 Leigh will sing the role of Chrysothemis in Strauss’ Elektra for UrbanOpera, Berlin and Salome (R. Strauss) für Sakrale Oper, Berlin.

In Europe Leigh Hamilton has sung in various opera and concert venues. She sang in the new production Teñoritas which premiered in Hamburg and toured all over Germany and Austria, including Berlin, Bonn, Cologn, Frankfurt and Salzburg. She sang in the new production Human Voices that was directed by Oscar winner Pepe Danquart which premiered in Berlin. Leigh has also toured with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, notable places were the Munich Philharmonic and as well as in Hamburg. She was also a guest star the the famous Friedrichstadt Palast. Leigh has performed many “Liederabends” including from Purcell to Porter In Hamburg as well as Berlin. She has sang a successful concert tour in parts of the American Midwest. In 2011 she sang in various concerts with Berlin’s Urban Opera under the musical direction of Maestro Klaus Sallmann.

Leigh Hamilton made her professional debut at the Houston Grand Opera as Helga in Piazolla’s Maria de Buenos Aires. Schicchi. For El Paso Opera Leigh sang in their production of Carmen. Leigh was also invited to sing at the Philamlife Theater in Manila Philippines. Additional engagements took Leigh to the Berkshire Opera, the Manhattan Opera and the Augusta Opera. Leigh scored a great personal success as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro for the Opera Delaware and at the Whitewater Opera – Sorg Opera she sang Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor as well as with Opera Theater of Connecticut. Leigh received tremendous acclaim from both critics and public alike for her Violetta in La Traviata in New Jersey and as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel. She has also sung Musetta in La Boheme with the American Opera Projects in New York.

Leigh Hamilton studied voice at the Manhattan School of Music with Marlena Malas and Adele Addison. Leigh has taken part in master classes from Birgit Nilsson, Daniel Ferro and George Shirley. She has been an award winner and finalist in many renowned international competitions, including the acclaimed Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation Competition, the Orlando Opera Competition and the Opera Columbus Competition as well as the Glimmerglass program.

Leigh Hamilton studies voice with Ks Professor Wolfgang Millgramm (Berlin Staatsoper, Bayreuth, La Scala).
